Tiling

When it comes to producing the dream tiled finish of your new or renovated home, there are many things to consider.

Firstly, there is the tile choice. Colour, size, matt or gloss finish. We recommend getting a few tiles on loan from a local tile shop before making your decision. Have the tiles sit in your house over a few days. See how the light reflects off the tile, how it looks in the sun light hours, how it looks in the night with artificial light. You only want to be laying tiles once and when you come home you want it looking right.

You also want to get assurances from your tile supplier that the wet area tiles you have chosen are non-absorbent porcelain and are fit for purpose. After tile selection you have grout colours, trim selection, mitring and finishing details. It is really important that the tiler is working together with the builder and plumber to ensure the finishing details are completed the way you want them. We recommend applying epoxy grout to all shower areas. Epoxy grout is waterproof so it will not discolour and is easier to clean than normal grout. Normal grout is a cementous product that can discolour and get mouldy. It should be regularly sealed and cleaned if used in a wet area.

Good coordination between the different trades is very important because the last thing you want is to have to pull tiles up because the wrong fitting has been put in or a drain hasn't been installed properly. To keep your tiled areas looking good you should use a neutral detergent and wipe down the shower areas after use. This is the same for the glass in showers. This will help prevent soap scum and hard water stains building up.

To ensure your dream tile finish make sure you take some time to get in people who can get it done right.
