What About Waterproofing?
Auckland council compliant waterproofing membranes come with 15 Year manufactures warranty. These warranties are subject to certain conditions. Bathroom and Tiling limited provide a 3 year workmanship warranty.
1) That the waterproofing product is being installed over built structures that are New Zealand Building code complaint. If you install waterproofing over non-building code compliant materials, you will find your manufactures warranty is void. 2) The product is installed as per the manufacture’s specifications. 3) If there are specific architect specifications they are being adhered to. 4) The waterproofing products are installed by a licensed applicator. Licensed applicators need to maintain their licenses by having regular manufacturer audits and maintain their liability insurance. Licensed applicators of waterproofing membranes are able to issue producer statements on completion of the job.
Producer Statements should only be issued if the above conditions have been satisfied. Waterproofing membrane usually comes in either a liquid applied membrane applied in 2 coats or a sheet membrane that is adhered to the substrate. Should I worry about compatible building materials? Someone has to ensure materials are compatible on the building site. After the structure is built to the building code with building code complaint materials the finishing products need to be compatible. When it comes to a bathroom you could have 4 or more materials going over your wet grade plywood bathroom floor. For example over a wet area plywood floor you could have: 1) Tile underlay 2) Under tile heating 3) Waterproofing 4) Tiles. Some building companies use compressed cement sheet instead of wet area plywood and thus don’t require a layer of tile underlay. It often pays to ensure one company is supplying the tiling products on your project. This way if there are any issues your dealing with one company and one supplier.
